Korallen aus der Gattung Goniastrea sind in der Einschätzung zur Haltung zu sehen wie viele Hirnkorallen der Gattung Favia und Favites. Also Boden bis Mittellichtzone bei mäßigen bis zeitweise turbulenten Strömungen, die nicht direkt auf das Tier gerichtet sein sollten.

Sie leben über die eingelagerten Zooxanthellen, sind aber auch in der Lage, kleinstes planktonisches Futter zu fangen und zu verwerten. Oft führt das natürlich zu besserem Wachstum und damit besserem Stand der Koralle im Aquarium.
